So here's the thing.
Actually - first - let me say upfront that I'm at 214. Weighed myself the other day. I'm not exactly happy about it, but I know it could be worse, and I seem to be maintaining well. So I'm holding on that for now to say a few more things.
You all know my history with The Family - The Matriarch - who is my godmother who does a really good job at reinforcing my abysmal-to-non-existent self esteem. So my parents and I are going out there at the end of September to surprise her for her 65th birthday.
I was looking forward to it for about a week, and then the dread set in.
More insecurity. More feeling like my worth is based on my pants size. More comments about "brownies are for big fat girls" (she made that comment last year, thank god the comment wasn't directed at me, but those kind of things stick with you)
***
You all know I *FINALLY* got a job in my chosen field back in May. I've been there almost 3 months now, and it's going really well. I feel like I fit in, and the work is challenging but interesting. I truly feel like I am where I am supposed to be. (Don't get me wrong: I am there on weekends sometimes, working from 7am to 8:30pm on some days; it's demanding, but there is at least a decent sense of satisfaction to be had)
One of my coworkers, who you would consider my Office BFF, is a large-and-in-charge woman. She's my age, about 3 inches taller than me, but weighs well into the 300s, I'd wager. She's had severe asthma her whole life, so I suspect the inability to play and move around as a kid turned into a vicious cycle into her adulthood. Anyway, this woman has the healthiest body image of anyone I have ever met. She loves herself unabashedly and wholeheartedly. She acknowledges and appreciates every inch of her body.
***
I'm being 100% honest, I cannot wrap my mind around it. And I feel like it makes me a terrible person, and whether it's right or wrong, it makes me feel like I'm a victim of the poor self-images of many of the women in my life. My godmother, my grandmother when she was alive, even my mother a lot of the time are the big culprits here, but a lot of my girlfriends are not without the negative side comments about themselves for not weighing less or wearing a smaller size.
Over my 27 years on this planet, I've just adopted the noise. I've assumed they're right and spent my time hating my body at all its sizes.
So from this point on, I'm going to focus on loving myself. I'm not going to get anywhere until I actually genuinely care about myself, and learn to appreciate the body that I have. I'm living on my own now (or, with 2 roommates, but out of the parents house finally. It's going great, by the way!) and it's time for me to define my own outlooks on, well, just about everything.
Now, that doesn't mean I'm giving myself license to eat whatever I want, or be lazy, but, I'm not going to focus at all on that - I need to focus on my heart, on my emotional body. I know, I'm rolling my eyes a little bit too. But I'm sick of feeling this dread and shame when I go to visit my godmother. And my mother too, but she just doesn't talk about it as much as my godmother does.
Also, I don't think that my godmother's birthday party weekend is the right time to have a conversation about it, but I'm entertaining the idea that at some point, I might have to have this conversation with her about how she makes me feel.
I'm 99% sure she is projecting her own negative body images onto me. And you know what? I just don't need that shit, plain and simple. I'm sick of it. And I know she's not entirely to blame - I'm letting myself feel that way, and that's where I want the change to happen. I need to build up my own self-image. My godmother's lack of healthy body-image shouldn't be my problem, and I want to be strong enough so that I don't internalize it.
I have no idea how I'm actually going to do any of this, but I just know that I need to start loving myself. No more 100in12, no more numbers (okay, maybe numbers here and there - I want to feel better about myself but I also don't deserve to have my hard work destroyed) (Plus I've been itching to change the design of this blog and now I have a good reason to do it!)
I want to start writing again - because I think it's good for me, and it'll help work out the crazy, I think. So I just need to find a way to a path that combines loving myself with taking care of myself and my health. I haven't the slightest idea as to how that's going to go (probably not smoothly?) but, I just wanted to throw that out there.
That's the new project. Taking care of and learning to love myself.

Here I go again...
Oh, hi there. *sheepish look*.
Uh, how’s everybody doin’?
I’m…okay. I’ve been eating pretty darn poorly this past week – lots of chocolate and candy from my stocking, Christmas cookies, ice cream, Diet Coke, and bagels for breakfast, and lunch, and dinner. There was literally one day last week when I had a bagel at EVERY MEAL. I felt…gross.
My mom and I are fine. Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone in that one. I love her to pieces and I know she’s my biggest fan, she just seems to have a weird way of showing it? I don’t know.
But things are fine and we had a nice Christmas. I got money for new running shoes, so I’m probably going to go to a store like Pacers or Footsteps to get their opinions. Can I tell you, though – I am scared to go in there, and I’ll tell you why. (you can probably guess why) My size. I have this image that all people that go in there are runners, therefore zero-percent-body-fat kind of people. And also, if they have to watch you run to figure out if you over-pronate or whatever – oh man, I am terrified by not only the clerks watching me, but anyone else in the store!? EEPS.
That’s the number one reason why I haven’t gone to one of those stores yet. Or hell, even if they don’t judge me because most of the time I’m projecting and it’s my own judgment and not theirs, I’m going to compare myself like you wouldn’t believe anyway! Ugh. What a neurotic sentence that was.
Well, I’ll just have to give myself the pep talk of all pep talks at some point and just cowboy up and go in there. Because I want pretty new running shoes.
For that matter, I want to be running again. I haven’t been to the gym in two weeks. I haven’t done any kind of physical activity. I feel kind of sluggish. I noticed the other day that I felt a little more out of breath after running up all of my townhouse stairs. That scared/saddened me a little bit. My weight isn’t up that much (this has to be a gigantic Christmas present from the Universe) so it’s just fitness related.
***
Okay, I guess we’ll go ahead and get to it – my weight this morning, which marks the last week in December but also the end of the Challenge! Ha, YES, I was still technically participating!
Somehow, miraculously, I am at 218.8 this morning. It’s only a .4 gain from last week. If you saw what I ate this week, you’d be surprised too!
And I did my measurements – I’m unsure about their accuracy because I can’t remember the exact spots I measured last time, so…oh well!
Arm 12 (13 at the beginning of the challenge – 1 inch down!)
Waist 45 (47 at the beginning of the challenge – 2 inches down!)
Bust 44 (50 at the beginning of the challenge – 6 inches down! Bless the Lord and my inaccurate measuring!)
Leg 26 (26.5 at the beginning of the challenge - .5 inches down!)
Hips 50 (52 at the beginning of the challenge – 2 inches down!)
Well, that makes me feel pretty good, even considering they might not be entirely accurate. 11.5 inches total? I like it.
***
On to the future.
I want and need to start doing better. I don’t want to weigh any higher than I do right now, I don’t deserve to. I was looking at my own blog the other day, and realized, UH, it’s called 100in12 not for cuteness purposes, but for, you know, goal purposes. I still have that ultimate goal I’m working for.
As of right now, I’m still okay as far as those monthly goals I’ve set, and I want it to stay that way.
I want to blog more again. I miss being participatory in your lives, and my own life for that matter.

16 December 2009
Oh, hi there.
I didn't post last night, that's obvious, no? I kinda, just, didn't feel like it. I turned my computer off early in the evening and wanted to step away from it a little bit. It didn't help that I didn't eat in a timely fashion yesterday and I wasn't looking forward to posting AGAIN about how I missed a meal because I'm a poor planner and got all crazy and distracted yada yada. I just get worried that you all out there in blogland are going to start thinking I have an actual problem of some kind - other than just being scatterbrained, mind you. I suppose I should also not care what other people think...but that's a completely different discussion/blog/world isn't it?
Okay, so let's just get down to business then!
I'lll start with our regularly scheduled progamming, Challenge Wednesdays!
...even though it's total BS. I call BS on the scale.
Do you know what it said?
I'll tell you.
217.
Between Monday and now I seem to have gained like 3 pounds. Impossible. I believe the culprit to be water - both in that I didn't have enough of it on Tuesday, but also because I drank some this morning without thinking as I got up before I got on the scale. And That Biological Event of a Woman That Shall Not Be Named is coming up real soon. Gross.
The reasons for the scale number could be all of these or none of these, I don't know. Regardless I'm totally not buying this number at all, so no worries.
On to goal-tracking!
Last week's goals were:
*Keep tracking and drinking water! Check!
*Vitamins.every.day. Check!
*Do the Shred DVD at least once FAIL.
*Eat a fruit or a vegetable at every meal. Things like V8 or some soups count – but I don’t want to rely on them. So close! I'm gonna give myself a Half-Check on this one.
*Don’t look at the scale until Monday. Check!
I got most of 'em!
Goals for next week:
*Keep tracking and drinking water
*Vitamins every day
*Eat a fruit or a vegetable at every meal (V8 counts but I try not to rely on it)
*Go to the gym at least twice
Okay and now, finally, the meals from yesterday.
I had a second/final interview yesterday and I had to start getting ready around noon, and I didn’t get home until 5pm – hence the sporadic meals. They were nutritious and included veggies, though!
Vitamins – Check!
Water – Only 36oz. For shaaaame
Breakfast:
*egg sandwich: egg subst., mushrooms, 2 thin slices avocado, ketchup
*can of V8
Snack:
*half a cup of cottage cheese
Dinner:
*individual meatloaf (I ate about half, which is still a pretty big portion, well over 5oz)
*steamed broccoli
*glass of milk
Dessert:
*skinny cow ice cream cone

Challenge Wednesdays: Week Feels Like 8 Trillion.
Well, I’m at 218 this fine Wednedsay morning.
That's a 3.2 loss from last Wednesday!
And I met all my goals from last week too:
*Go back to the gym! I haven’t been since Friday. Check Check Check! I went Weds, Thurs, and Monday
*Track water again, and drink MORE of it. Check!
*Vitamins.every.day. Check!
*Do the Shred DVD at least once Check! Did it on Saturday
Can I also say that I am very proud of myself for exercising 5 out of 7 days in this most recent Challenge week? Three gym days, a shred day and a track day.
And I guess I also reached my unofficial goals as well:
*No peeking on the scale from last Challenge Wednesday to Monday, and then from Monday to Today Check!
*Get out of the 220s Check!
So now we set goals for next week (and it’s almost the last one – we have weigh-ins on the 16th and the 23rd and then Monday the 28th finishes everything up! Crazy…and of course the final WI on the 28th is AFTER the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day holiday meals I have!)
*Keep tracking and drinking water!
*Vitamins.every.day.
*Do the Shred DVD at least once
*Eat a fruit or a vegetable at every meal. Things like V8 or some soups count – but I don’t want to rely on them.
*Don’t look at the scale until Monday.
…you’ll notice other than doing the Shred DVD, I don’t really set fitness goals. That’s because then it turns into something I HAVE to do versus something I choose to do. I was proud of myself for exercising 5 out of 7 days this past Challenge Week. And it’s all the more gratifying because I didn’t have to. And fitness in general is like that too – if I think about how I will HAVE TO sweat my butt off or go to the gym four times a week for 8 or 9 straight months to reach my goal weight it feels overwhelming and I want to quit. But if I think about how this week, no one was making me do anything, but I chose to exercise, I made that decision all on my own and I’m fully capable of making that same decision over and over.
(I suppose you could argue that I would be CHOOSING to set a fitness goal as a goal, but…I still don’t like it. My mind is warped! Or I’m scared of not achieving a goal that I set. Either/or :-P)
Challenge Weigh-Ins:
Week #1 11/4/09 (229.8)
Week #2 11/11/09 (226.4)
Week #3 11/18/09 (224)
Week #4 11/25/09 (221.2)
Week #5 12/2/09 (221.2)
Week #6 12/9/09 (218)
11.8 pounds lost so far!

Challenge Wednesdays Week 5 Edition
I think Taylor needs to see a Scale Therapist – she might be bipolar.
My weight today?
221.2
What is wrong with you, Taylor?! You are so strange!!
So I guess this means I maintained for this most recent Challenge Week. Bizarre.
I still have to face the music for Challenge Wednesdays – my goals were not really met at all.
*keep tracking water (I forgot a couple of days)
*take vitamins everyday (Only took them maybe 2 or 3 times, I forgot)
*do abs work more days out of the week than not (Didn’t do any at all!)
*exercise on Thanksgiving! Sweat it out! CHECK!
One goal out of four.
Hm, for this next week?
*Go back to the gym! I haven’t been since Friday.
*Track water again, and drink MORE of it
*Vitamins.every.day.
*Do the Shred DVD at least once
Here are my Challenge Weigh-Ins so far:

Week #5 12/2/09 (221.2)
An unofficial goal would be to get out of the 220s (and stay out!) in the next couple of weeks. I only have 3 left!

Challenge Wednesdays
Well, Taylor humbled me a little today. In all honesty, I wanted to get to 220 today. Dare I say it, I expected it. The other challenge weeks so far I’ve been down a pound or sometimes two from Monday-Wednesday. I had always questioned why, and kind of thought it might be a trick of the scale just in my favor – and I expected the same today.
Nope.
221.2
Now, that is still a 2.8 loss from last week, so that’s good! But only a .2 loss from Monday? I’ve had two good days with good food and great exercise. My one guess is because I didn’t drink as much water yesterday as I usually do…
I am well aware that scale victories are not the only kind and certainly the least reliable...maybe Taylor is teaching me to not rely on her. Maybe she’s teaching me to not expect things from her. Regardless of the numbers on the scale, I know when you start to expect results (and not focusing on the work you're doing), is when you probably stop seeing them...even though I worked hard these past two days.
Okay, enough. I'm upset about this number, but, I can kind of feel that its like a little-kid-bratty-upset and not a legitimate upset.
I’m going to go ahead and get over myself for complaining about what is really a 2.8 loss from last week. This WI technically has nothing to do with Monday and I should treat it as such, despite what I had hopes for. I can still work toward those progress pictures for Monday. I want to take them so badly!
As far as Challenge housekeeping goes, last week’s goal To Do list was:
*keep tracking water – CHECK!
*make something out of that acorn squash I have, and finally peel/open that pomegranate! CHECK!
*go to the track (I kind of like it there) CHECK!
*eat spinach every day this week Almost Check! Missed one day.
*do abs work everyday (added late but SO not check – Since Thursday of last week – I did abs stuff on Friday and Monday. Oops. I still don’t like them!)
So kinda didn’t do the abs thing…I really don’t like doing abs work. I think I’m getting better at targeting the muscles though. So what to set for this week...hmmm….
*keep tracking water
*take vitamins everyday (I take one for vitamin B, calcium, and one fish oil caplet)
*do abs work more days out of the week than not (so at least four days)
*exercise on Thanksgiving! Sweat it out!
Nope.

I Meal the Earth Move (Un.dah.Mah.Feet.)
Today was crazy busy!! And I’m sad to say, I forgot about my spinach goal completely today – it flew my mind so I didn’t eat any today. But I DID think of another goal that I’ll adopt along with the others, so that kind of (not really, at all) makes up for it? Ehhh? Crickets chirping!?!?!
So I got up at 5:30 in the godforsaken am to get to my temp gig on time, managed to make myself a gigantic breakfast that was actually kind of spread out over the morning – I ate the oatmeal at 6:30, the V8 in the car (so 7-7:50ish) then the cottage cheese around 8am. It was a progressive breakfast through major streets of the dc metro area.
Lunch was half-hearted, I’ll admit. Not at all creative. Tasty, yes. Filling – actually, surprisingly, yes. But well-planned…I’d say not so much.
I did get in about 30 minutes of brisk walking today on a break, which was nice. It definitely helped since:
The gym got cut short today. I got off at 2:30 (an hour later than I was supposed to) and hurried home to get to the gym before I met some friends at 4pm. So I cut my workout short. I did 11 minutes on the treadmill for warm up, three machines, then some jump rope and abs stuff. I alternated rope, abs, rope, abs. I was still there for almost an hour but I didn’t get back to the other machines like I would have liked to.
**which reminds me, because I'm literally adding this after I've posted/written everything else: my new goal! I want to do abs work everyday. Whether it's 3 reps or 250 reps. I don't even know what a low number or a high number would be, really. But I want to get better at this, it's by far my least-worked muscle and the one that needs the most help**
So I race home, quickly check email (more on that in a hot minute) and jump in the shower and head out to meet some friends. They just bought a condo so I went over to see it. We ran some errands and then went to a CHINESE FOOD PLACE for dinner. AGH! Read ahead to see if I was good or bad :-)
Oh, and water. 76oz today. Same as yesterday!
So – I just want to take a second to thank all of you lovely lovely commenters – not only for the jeans thing (which I TOTALLY wore again today. Bangin’) – but just in general. I love to hear from you because you all keep me going and I get inspired and ideas every day from you. THANK YOU! For realsies. Internet Hugs.
Whew! So 5:30am to 9:30pm, I’m just now home and sitting, and it’s lovely. Just like you.
Breakfast:
*pumpkin oatmeal (I took a quaker instant pack – cinnamon roll flavored – and added pumpkin puree, just as a quick addition kinda deal)
*can of V8
*cup of cottage cheese
Lunch: (on the go at work)
*half a peanut butter sandwich on homemade wheat bread
Snack: (on the way to the gym)
*gala apple
Dinner:
*steamed mixed veggies and brown rice (occasionally dipping lightly in some delicious mystery sauce of some kind)
PS - To my GLEEKS, did you watch last night? And did you totally cry when they sang Lean on Me? JUST ME?! Because I totally cried. And then I downloaded the cast's version of Lean on Me this morning and was listening to it driving into work and I started tearing up AGAIN! I had to switch to a different song because I didn't want to walk into work with my mascara running :-P

Challenge Wednesdays - Week, Um, What week is this?
Well despite my confusion over how many weeks along in the challenge we are, I'm doing well. Is it week three or week four? I can't figure out what the exact start date was.
Hopped on the scale this swell AM (sing to the tune of Party in the USA, it works!)
with a prayer, a yawn or two
welcome to the land of HOLY CRAP
Am I gonna fit in...
....those size 18 jeans I have?
Hahaha, Jack Sh*t I am not, that's for sure. I did a lyrics change once to Mambo #5 but it was about being in London (last summer for an internship - I've never been happier in my life) and it was the most ridiculous thing ever. But fun. And who doesn't love Mambo #5! I feel like Michael Scott (The Office) for still liking that song.
Okay I shouldn't delay the results any further, since they're good!
224!
That's 2.4 pounds down from last week!
And so far in the challenge, I've lost either 8 pounds or 10 pounds, depending on the start date.
I'm proud of how I'm doing so far, but everyday I tell myself "Don't rely on these results - don't think you're going to get them every week just because. You have to work for them. And if you don't feel like working then you won't get results. It's not always the most difficult thing in the world but it isn't a cake walk either. Oooh, cake? No, self, focus! Just think about today, or plan for the next couple of days. That's it."
I think during SWL1 I spent too much time thinking and writing things like "This time next year I will be thin and fit and I will be turning heads and this and that...." and looking back, it was like I assumed that I would just keep going and keep losing, I was expecting results without focusing on the work it would take to get there. Thinking about going to the gym and winning internal battles with myself about food is enough for one day, thinking about doing it for 5 months or 6 months straight, that's overwhelming - even if I am doing well right now.
This time around if I catch myself daydreaming about being in Onederland (and staying there) or dating or writing that 100-pounds-lost post...I stop myself. I don't want to think about it too much. That's not to say I won't get there, but I'm not thinking of it as a foregone conclusion. Just because I'm motivated today doesn't mean I will be 7 months from now or even two weeks from now! I can't and I won't take it for granted.
Okay, well now that that little tangent is behind us, I have to set some goals for this week. Hmm.
*keep tracking water - I think I'm drinking more now that I have actual numbers to look at
*make something out of that acorn squash I have, and finally peel/open that pomegranate!
*go to the track (I kind of like it there)
*eat spinach every day this week

Challenge Wednesdays
Okay, Tay had some good news for me:
226.4!
So for Challenge purposes, I lost 3.4 poundages. Woo! I’m still dubious over how I get a loss so quickly from Monday to Wednesday, but whatevs. I have been workin’ hard at the gym both days, that’s for sure!
So the goals of last week were fully met:
Gym 4 times: CHECK!
Swimming: CHECK!
30 Day Shred: CHECK!
Oh, and Laundry!: CHECK! (It was like my closet was a college kid, went on a bender at frat parties at Target and Old Navy and had then ralphed it all up over my room and his roommate’s shoes or something. But not anymore!)
Reflections of the week:
The third day of the gym was a strugggglllllle and I barely made it there, and I only stayed with the help of Food Network’s captivating programming…mostly about pie, if you remember. Ha. I’m not sure if I should set the same fitness goals for this next week. I’ve been worried that if I put too much pressure on myself that eventually I’ll crack and give up. It happened during SWL1 and I don’t want it to happen this time. When it becomes something I have to do or I’m forced to do versus something I’m choosing to do, that’s when I think I start to struggle with it, even if it is the right thing to do. I’m prouder of the choices I make versus the things I’m obligated to do, even if technically the goal setting was a choice in the first place. My mind is fun labyrinth of crazy, is what I’m saying.
This time around I’m really trying to work with myself and my weird perspectives, to make the weight loss work. I think during SWL1 all of a sudden I thought I needed to become this workout/diet machine and immediately change my way of thinking, too. This time, I know better. I’m trying to use my idiosyncrasies (dare I say embrace them) to get this SWL2 to actually be successful. For example: Holding myself accountable. Everyone says it’s better to tell people, right? You’re more likely to succeed if you know people are aware of your efforts. Well, I hate talking about my weight loss. Absolutely hate it. It’s a big source of shame for me: it’s like I’m admitting to people I’m losing weight because I let myself get this big (twice) in the first place. BUT – writing about it is a totally different scenario. It’s always been easier for me to be honest through writing, it feels safer. And knowing that people I don’t know in real life (yet! :-D) are reading (thank you for doing so, by the way, I don’t think this would be working if it weren’t for you lovelies) about my efforts and food choices is just the right kind of motivation for me.
Moooooving on, goals for this week:
*Track the amount of water I drink - I never know how much to actually drink because I’ve read so many different things: 64 oz, divide your weight in half and drink at least that many ounces, or drink when you feel thirsty/there is no minimum. I try and make sure I drink 64 oz and after that I don’t really pay attention. I’m hoping by tracking it will motivate me to drink more, whatever the number may be. Can anyone drop some knowledge about the amount of water I should be drinking!?
*Go out and get some new vegetables! I’m getting close to overdosing on broccoli. I need something different.
Ha, I think that might be it for the week. It’s gonna be a low-key kinda week.

07 November 2009
this post contains nothing of value.
Just thought it'd be nice to give you fair warning, so you don't come to me afterwards wanting those minutes of your life back.
First item on the agenda: I currently have 69 followers. Ha. (Yep, I have the humor of a 15 year old boy)
Agenda, Part Deux: Apparently my handwriting is terrible. Yesterday I filled out an info card for one of those “savings rewards” card deals – and I wrote my last name out, and as the clerk was reading it back to me to put it in the system, she mistook my S for an F and my E for a U. Really?
And 5 years ago, a Fed Ex guy commented on my signature: “You must not want to get married ‘cause your signature looks NOTHING like your last name!” …to this day I still cannot understand the connection he was making. But I will admit, my B looks like a Z in my signature.
I’m an individual with special handwriting damnit!
(Haha, and that also reveals that I have an S, and E, and a B somewhere in my name! Slowly my identity is being revealed…maybe I should make that a weekly feature of the ol’ blog. Ha! PS Nobody Cares)
Third ("is a nerd with a big fat turd"...what is wrong with me) Things at which I used to roll my eyes so hard you could hear it, but now may actually sort of kind of understand: “Gym time is ME time”
I hustled over to the gym this morning because there is a 10am Zumba class that I’ve been curious about for a really long time – so I rush over there, and, you see where this is going? Cancelled. Agh! And in my haste to get over there, I left without my ipod. I did workout SANS iPod! I did 12 minutes on the treadmill – 5 walking, 5 jogging (at 5mph! I am proud of myself for doing this again – I really had to get out of my head for this one) and then 2 walking just kind of happened as I slowed after the jogging.
Then the usual weight machines. I didn’t try that lower ab/leg raise one, but I did some of them on the floor, so I’m happy with that!
I still have the 30 Day Shred DVD to finish out my exercise goals for the week, but I did meet this week’s challenge goal of going to the gym four times in a week. Hooray!

it's not a dream anymore, it's worth fighting for
Lyrics from Paramore's Looking Up, anyone? I think I've written the lyrics as a post before. It's kind of my favorite song right now. I always get excited when it comes up on the ol' workout playlist. Everytime I hear that line that I used above, I'm reminded that I'm DOING things right now. I know I have a ways to go, but I'm DOING it. It kind of puts me in the moment and makes me proud of my efforts. So I likez it.
So...
Just got back from the gym AND the pool! Take that, goals I set for myself! Only two more gym sessions left and a little quality time with Jillian and her shredding. For the week, anyway :-P
Gym was good. 11 minutes on the treadmill, like 4 of which were jogging. WAH WAH WAHHHHHHH. (game show fail noise) I haven’t really been challenging myself too much with the jogging. Ever since I discovered that jogging outside doesn’t have you staring at a clock as each unattractive-panting-filled second ticks by, I can’t get jazzed up about that treadmill. Even when I cover up the display with a towel, I can't always talk myself out of peeking...every 20 seconds. Of course, have I been jogging outside this week? Of course not. Anyway, back to today’s gym time. I did weights. And I upped the weight on a lot of them, so yay! I even attempted this one:
I brought my knees up to my chest, but I could only do it THREE TIMES. I can’t support myself on that thing quite yet. There’s certainly room for improvement! Yeesh. Other than this machine’s disaster, the workout was good.
Pool was good too. I swam for 35 minutes! I didn’t take any big breaks either.
And here is the waffle recipe from yesterday! I love that it uses whole wheat flour, and it's very simple and quick and easy. Those are always my qualifiers for baking now! It is:
1 ½ (1.5) cups whole wheat flour
3 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
1 tbsp “pumpkin pie spice” (OR 1 tsp each of cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg)
1/8 tsp salt
2 eggs
¼ cup brown sugar
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 2/3 cups milk
¼ cup canola oil
I mixed the dry ingredients and then added the wet ones. Instead of eggs I used egg substitute, and for the brown sugar I used about half brown, half Splenda. And I just realized, but didn’t do it, I could have replaced the oil with applesauce.
It made 10 waffles in my iron. And they freeze well and toast up nicely!
PS: This is suuuper random, but can LOST come back on now?! I can't wait until January. I want it now! (said with Veruca Salt accent)

....what?
Challenge Wednesday!
So The Fall Into Fitness Challenge 09’s official WIs are Wednesdays. So this morning Taylor and I had our first Wednesday meeting.
Stupid Tangent!: I have now just named my scale. Unoriginally so, I must say. Taylor is the brand. But the Taylor I know in real life makes me smile, she is a symbol of comfort, and I could never be mad at Taylor, so I’m going with it!. End Tangent!
So this is what Taylor had to say for me:
229.8?
…..what? (don’t you love in movies/TV shows when they use the title in conversation?!)
(sorry for the video quality!)
On the one hand, the scale is going down: yay! On the other hand, why is it down so much in two days: eep. I know I didn’t eat a lot yesterday and I’m sure that contributed, but I didn’t think it would contribute that much. Yeesh.
Well, today will be better. I WILL go to the gym, and I don’t like going to the gym unless I’ve eaten something of substance.
Today will be better.
PS I'm gonna go ahead and keep my inches/measurements as they were before. I'm only gonna see what those are at the end of the Challenge to get maximum "wow!" results for myself!

Food Girl Gone Bad
I’m Dumb, 100in12 Edition.
Okay, I made dumb mistakes in my earlier post! First of all, I realized in my goals I wrote going to the gym four times, and then separately doing the dvd and swimming – I meant to say exercising four times in the week - and kind of assuming that two of them would be the dvd and the swimming. But since it’s already written out there in the bloggernetscape, I’m gonna try and do it all!! I did the DVD and the swimming in one day last week, I can do it again! Plus the gym four times. So it’s gonna be a hell of a week! Yikes.
(Oh, but did I do anything today? NOPE. Wanna know why? My hair and makeup were done (for an interview I had this afternoon – fingers crossed!) and I didn’t want to undo all of it. I have to say, it’s a new excuse for me. But my hair really does look nice. I did my eye makeup with Almay’s Intense I-Color for green eyes (mine are a sometimes-hazely olive green) and it looked pretty darn good if I do say so myself.)
The other mistake was in the serving size of those meatballs I want to make – I read through the instructions for the serving size, the recipe makes TWELVE. Haha, so 40 won’t exactly work. But I think I can maybe squeeze out twenty instead. But I’m definitely still going to make them. They look so good and hearty.
Breakfast:
*gala apple (can you tell we bought a TRAY of them at Costco and now I must have at least one a day?! Geez!)
* ½ cup egg subst. scrambled with a sprinkling of garlic powder, 1 LCL wedge and topped with 2 tbsp salsa
*can of V8
Lunch:
*1/2 cup veggie crunchers
*meatloaf sandwich: 1.5 slices of meatloaf, ketchup, wrapped in a medium whole wheat tortilla.
Snack:
*Nature Valley Honey N Oats pack (2 bars)
Dinner:
*2/3 cup cottage cheese
*steamed broccoli + chicken + soy sauce (good but once again I used too much soy sauce. I must remember a little goes a long way!)
Life is a HighWeigh
Ha! Sometimes I crack myself up - this post title is one of those occasions.
And I'm happy to report, it's also not representative of this week's WI! I'm at:
232.4
So that brings me at an even 2 pound loss from last week! It's a good way to start the Challenge. I think I was eating more this past week (not badly, just more) so I am definitely pleased with the results!
Speaking of the Challenge, fellow contestants, has anything been decided about rules and what not? I read Kathryn's earlier post. (PS Chai, if you read this, I love the Fall Into Fitness: 8 Week Challenge. Heh :-)
There was some discussion as to whether to change the Challenge to % weight loss (TBL style) or stick to 20 lbs, but I haven't heard anything official - either weigh (HAR HAR) I'm happy with how I've started things off!
Okay, one more challenge thing and one other thing. We'll start with the Challenge thing. Kathryn suggested writing a post at the beginning of each week that states your goals for the week and how it fits in to the larger 8 week-goal picture.
I guess my goals for this week are to:
Keep on keepin' on.
Go to the gym 4 times this week.
Swim at least once.
Do that stupid 30 Day Shred at least once. (haha, I'm fake-mad at it because it made me sweat and work hard!)
These are my goals for the week. Also, at some point in the near future, I would really like to go hiking. Just spend a day walkin' up a mountain and pack some fruit and (low fat) cheese and (whole grain) bread and have a simple lunch with a beautiful view?! I love this stuff. Gotta find people to go with me and also do it before it gets too cold!
In the next few weeks, I'd also like to make these. According to the SP Recipe Calculator, if I make 40 per batch, they are only 43 calories per meatball (and I'll probably make a few changes like whole grain bread and egg substitute). I want.
Okay now on to the other thing:
I twitterytweetletwitted about it, but I realized last week's weigh in of 234.4 got me to a 10% weight loss! That's pretty cool, I think.

Start Yer Engines
So I decided to do a challenge.
Kathryn over at Down to 150 is striving to lose 20 pounds in 8 weeks. I have yet to participate in any of these challenges I see on the interwebs. I've been wanting to, and I also want some extra motivation for the holidays/winter months. So I'm doin' it too!
My weigh-in days are Mondays, so I'll say my starting stat is 234.4 - so I'm working towards 214.4 on December 21st! Twenty pounds in eight weeks means losing 2.5 pounds a week, which to me seems like a solid but safe number. And it also seems like one I could easily average too, taking into account good and bad days/weeks, what have you.
So here we go! Anyone else want to sign up for the challenge?
Oh, I've decided to also do my measurements, because I've never done that before. So here they are in inches:
Bust - 50
Waist - 47
Hips - 52
Arms - 13
Thighs - 26.5
